Training Session Information

Session Times

We train each week at the following times:

Wednesday 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Friday 6:15am – 8:15am

Sunday 7:00am – 9:00am (in winter this is 7:30am – 9:30am)

(Times include getting the boats ready, warming up and helping to put the boats away)

We train throughout the year, including in winter and when it is wet. However, in the event of stormy weather or high winds training may be cancelled at short notice. Minimum numbers of paddlers are required to safely host a session.

New paddlers are welcome to join us for their first few paddles any  Sunday morning

Requirements:

Ability to swim at least 50 metres (If you are not a confident swimmer, life jackets are available to use).

What to bring:

Summer

    • Shorts and light shirt – think active wear or board shorts – something you won’t mind getting wet (it is a water sport after all!)
    • Hat
    • Closed shoes – joggers or aqua shoes
    • Rain jacket (in wet weather)
    • Water bottle with drinking water
    • Towel
    • Change of clothes for afterward

Winter

    • Warm layered clothing – think thermals, tights or multiple thin layers – you are still likely to get wet but need to be able to move despite the extra layers
    • Hat or beanie
    • Closed shoes – joggers or aqua shoes
    • Rain jacket (in wet weather)
    • Water bottle with drinking water
    • Towel
    • Change of clothes for afterward

We will provide paddles, life jackets and basic instructions before you get in the boat

What to expect – session basics

–  Warm-up and Stretching Exercises to avoid injury
